A tutorial for Garageband users that want to move their song to REAPER.
6 Easy Steps for Exporting Stems on Garageband. With this simple piece of software, you’ll definitely get started on the right path to success, but exporting stems can be tricky. It doesn’t have a feature that will allow you to export multiple stems at the same time, so I’d. This video includes: why stems are needed what stems are used for tips for exporting great stems how to zip stems in a folder how to upload stems in the working file How to export stems with Audacity, Garageband and Pro Tools coming soon!
Learn the trick to exporting stems from Garageband using the track lock/freeze function.
1 – set project end marker 2 – track menu: configure track header, enable lock button 3 – click lock button on each track 4 – PLAY – Garageband will begin freezing all tracks (rendering audio files) 5 – save project 6 – Find Garageband project in Finder (usually in username/Music) 7 – Right-click on project, choose “Show package contents” 8 – in media folder, find “freeze files no sync” – this is the rendered audio 9 – copy this audio to a folder for the REAPER project 10 – Name audio files 11 – import audio 12 – adjust item volume for headroom
Garageband really doesn’t make it easy and you lose a lot in this process. Your mix will likely sound very different – no automation – track volume not applied to audio – master volume not applied – no master fx like reverb – track names not used for rendered audio

Hi there, I did FAWM this year. Did everything on my iPad, mostly in Korg Gadget. From there I can export my Projects without any Problem. My Problems start with my Garageband Recordings. Some songs were done with Egoist (on iPad) recorded to Garageband and jammed over it with Animoog, Impaktor, FM4 and Thor. Now, as I'm preparing some of the Songs for mastering and reworking (as the songs were done in a Day mostly) I ask myself how to get them into Live with the different Tracks not mixed into one? Do I have to export the Song x times with only one track soloed? Or is there a better way?
